Our story

Twenty yearsof scientific calling.

We started in Xalapa with one simple, demanding conviction: scientific rigor and human care don't get in each other's way — they need each other.

The origin

It beganas an answer.

In 2006 the region had nowhere to train health professionals with both a solid scientific foundation and real clinical practice. Instituto Científico de Educación Superior opened to fill that gap, with a small group of faculty and a clear idea of the professional the region needed.

We were the first institution in the state of Veracruz to offer a Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy. That decision shaped everything that followed: if we were going to train the person who lays hands on a patient, practice could not be an afterthought tacked onto the final semesters.

We didn't set out to open one more school. We set out to open the one we wish we'd had.

Milestones

The road, one milestone at a time.

Two decades of decisions you can still see in the classroom, in the rehabilitation center and in every graduating class.

  1. 2006

    The doors open

ICES is founded in Xalapa with its first cohort and a faculty trained in professional practice, not only in the classroom.

  2. 2006

    Pioneers in Physical Therapy

We become the first institution in the state of Veracruz to offer a Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy, with our own curriculum and hands-on practice from the earliest semesters.

  3. 2018

    The offering grows

Engineering degrees, business and law programs and the first master's degrees join the health programs — all accredited by Mexico's Ministry of Education.

  4. 2022

    The map opens up

Exchange programs abroad begin during academic breaks, so that learning doesn't stop at the edge of campus.

  5. 2023

    CRICES opens

The institute's own rehabilitation center opens on campus: students do their placements there treating real patients, and the center is open to the general public.

  6. Today

    A settled community

Ten academic programs, on-campus and blended formats, and a body of alumni practicing across the region.

From the director

The personbehind the project.

Portrait of the general director of ICES

Every class that leaves here carries two things: the technical knowledge their profession will demand, and the judgment to know what to do with it. The first can be taught. The second is caught from someone — which is why it matters so much who stands in front of the group.

The campus today

Where allof this happens.

Classrooms, laboratories and our own rehabilitation center, on a campus built so that practice sits a few steps away from theory.

  • ICES main hall set up with the flags and the ceremonial table

The main hall, home to every institutional ceremony.

  • ICES rehabilitation gym with parallel bars and specialized equipment

CRICES, where clinical practice happens with real patients.

  • ICES students walking through campus between classes

The campus, minutes from downtown Xalapa.

  • ICES students studying at the tables in the common areas

The common areas, where studying happens between classes.
